The Maarif Education Model and Its Impact on French High Schools

The Maarif education model began to be implemented gradually in schools starting from the 2024-2025 academic year. According to this model prepared by the Ministry of National Education, there have been changes in course contents and the curriculum. The aim of the model is to organize topics so they do not pile up in the 11th and 12th grades, and to simplify subjects, enabling students to gain skills rather than just memorizing information. In addition, it aims to advance topics progressively across grades. For this reason, the main goal is for some basic concepts and topics to be learned in earlier grades, preparing the student for the following year.

Is the Maarif Model Compatible with the French Education System?

Students studying at French high schools in Turkey enter an intensive academic schedule after a preparatory year spent learning a difficult language like French up to the B1 level, while simultaneously studying at a school affiliated with the MEB (Ministry of National Education) and trying to follow its curriculum. In the Maarif model, topics are distributed according to grade levels, which may not overlap with the French system's own long-standing course sequencing. The school needs to implement its own French system without deviating from the MEB's curriculum. French high schools must correctly integrate this model into their own structure.
